The legal definition of rape is, “The penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim”(Russo) There are various types of rape. Stranger rape is when the rapist is a complete and utter stranger to you. Stranger rape is, “rare and account for only 25% of all reported sexual assaults.”(“”). Aquinatance rape is when you know the rapist. “Acquaintance rapes account for more than 75% of all reported rapes”(“”). These are just a few of the many types of rape. Victims of rape usually suffer from RTS(Rape Truama Syndrome). Most of the surviors experience RTS during the rape. There are two types of RTS: “1. The Acute (Initial) Phase , which usually lasts anywhere from a few days to a few weeks after the attack. 2. The Reorganization Phase , which usually lasts anywhere from a few weeks to several years after the attack”(John). “According to the National Black Women’s Health Project based in Washington, D.C.:
- A woman is raped every 2 minutes.
- An attempted rape occurs every 3 minutes”(Norment). Rape is an injustice because the victims are scarred for a lifetime afterwards.
